This Armenian born artist came to America over 40 years ago and is an authentic American success story. When he arrived here he had nothing except an indominable thirst to work and create great art. A highly trained artist, (having also trained as an architect) he brings all his skills to his beautiful paintings and sculptures. His tremendous success eventually led to his being chosen by the Vatican to complete a commission for an alterpiece depicting the life works a newly canonized saint. Quite an honor when you consider that names such as Berninni and Michaelangelo shared this privilege. Many of his more recent works, while displaying a very cubist influence, are without a doubt expressions his own artistic voice. He uses cubism only as part of his viaul language, bending it to his own will and ideas about art and life. Frankly, he is one of my favorite artists..... as is Picasso, ofcourse.
Born in Columbia, this artist's works have intrigued me from the first moment I viewed one of his exquisite, classically executed nudes. For some people, a nude painting is just a picture of a naked person. I suppose that is true in some respects, but when a nude is painted by an artist such as this, the work transcends this world, creating a dreamscape where beautiy and form rises above all this world's troubles and concerns. He paints his subjects with the tenderness of a lover whose eyes cannot move past the object of his desire. What powerful, sensual and timeless works are created on this artist's easel.
